Week #2 in January turns out to be weak: 7 sales compared to 12 in the same period in January 2010. But at this point, the landscape looks better, with the Dow 1,000 points higher than it was last year at this time. January is not the strongest month. Historically, things pick up in February.

The high sale for the week was the penthouse condo at 419 Broome Street asking $20 million. This building was made famous by the untimely death of actor Heath Ledger, a renter before the building turned condo. The penthouse is a triplex in Soho with 7,634 interior and 3,445 exterior square feet. It was on the market for 7 weeks.
